Curriculum Development, Classroom Presentations and Management
This workshop aims to support Student Assistance Program Counselors, School Nurses and others who are invited into classrooms to conduct health education as part of their work contracts. The workshop will include such topics as:
Principles and practices of classroom management
Pre-assessment before teaching – knowing your audience (student and
teacher)
Integrating guest teaching into the ongoing work of the classroom
Technical skills of teaching
Organizing the classroom to engage students
Using VT Grade Expectations for health education to choose critical
content/skills
Elements of effective skills instruction
Basics to assessment – how do you know you had any impact?
Establishing criteria for health education skills that is clear to
teachers, students, parents
These dynamics of teaching cut across the use of any curriculum. The concepts, topics and resources are generally reinforcing to the work of the SAP and school nurse at large. The workshop is co-sponsored by the Association of Student Assistance Professionals of Vermont and the VT Department of Education with 6 CEUs approved by the VT Certification Board.
