Teaching Safe Bicyling

VT Agency of Transportation Safe Routes to School Program

This workshop will give you the knowledge and skills you need to teach bicycle safety skills for ages 5-13 in your school or community – either as a bicycle safety fair, or as a series of lessons. You will receive training in how to instruct in mock traffic situations and bicycle handling skills. It covers essential concepts and skills for instruction, lesson content and approach as well as equipment challenges/logistics and setting up a bike safety fair in the community. Participants must bring a bicycle and helmet, and be prepared to ride. We will ride outside, weather permitting, or inside the ice arena in case of rain or snow.

Trainer: Becka Roolf

In addition to the curriculum and training, a Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Resources page on the CHL website provides links to other state and national resources for bicycle and pedestrian safety.
