ADAP Prevention Training

Arts in Prevention

DESCRIPTION

ARTfully Engaging Your Community in Prevention Work!

This workshop introduces the many types of art that can be used to promote and the different arts resources available throughout Vermont. Participants will learn how to integrate arts activities into their strategic prevention plans and how to consider special policy issues when implementing art-based prevention activity or strategy. Participants will:

1) Understand the many types of arts that can be used to promote prevention and the different arts resources available throughout the state of Vermont.

2) Be able to distinguish between using the arts as a way to engage community members in prevention efforts (method) vs. arts programs that educate about prevention topics (strategy).

3) See examples of ways that other coalitions have successfully used the arts in their prevention work.

4) Determine one way they can integrate an arts activity into their strategic prevention plans.

5) Understand special policy issues (e.g., no-use contracts with students) to be considered when implementing an arts-based prevention activity or strategy.

TRAINER *Dayna Scott, Coordinator for CY Connecting Youth in Chittenden South will work in collaboration with Lida Winfield, a teaching artist from the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts, to sponsor a one-day training for prevention coordinators and coalition members on how to use the arts to promote prevention.

Offered under a grant from the Vermont Department of Health, Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Programs.

Times: 8:00am – 8:30am Registration & Breakfast Buffet
8:30am – 3:30pm Training
Cost: A $35 fee includes materials and a continental breakfast. Participants should bring a bag lunch.
Registration: CEUs
This course is under review for approval for CEUs with the VADACB (Vermont Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counselor Certification Board).
