ADAP Prevention Training

Prevention 101

This training is designed to be an introduction to current substance abuse prevention practice. Participants will examine the current culture of drug use in Vermont, explore attitudes toward substance use, review the public health and community development models of prevention, examine a comprehensive substance abuse prevention plan using risk and protective factors and become familiar with prevention resources.

TRAINERS *Michelle Salvador and Sarah Roy

Michele is a Substance Abuse Prevention Consultant with the Agency of Human Services, Department of Health, Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Programs at the Morrisville District Office. A Social Worker by trade, she has been in the field of substance abuse prevention for 11 years, prior to which she worked both in adolescent substance abuse treatment and children’s mental health. When not hard at work organizing her community around prevention, she enjoys time with her new son Kaden and exploring the outdoors by foot, ski, Mad River Rocket and motorcycle.

Sarah Roy is a Substance Abuse Prevention Consultant with the Agency of Human Services, Department of Health, Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Programs at the Rutland District Office. During her 7 years in the field of prevention she has been actively involved with parents, students, schools, community agencies and service providers to help increase knowledge, skills and awareness of substance abuse prevention. Prior to her work with the state, she was employed by Castleton State College as a Resident Director along with being the Alcohol & Other Drug Educator for the campus. In addition to being a Newlywed, Sarah is often found out in the woods of Vermont hunting the elusive whitetail.

Times: 8:00am – 8:30am Registration & Breakfast Buffet
8:30am – 3:30pm Training
Cost: A $35 fee includes materials and a continental breakfast. Participants should bring a bag lunch.
Registration: CEUs
This course is under review for approval for CEUs with the VADACB (Vermont Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counselor Certification Board).
