Teaching Safe Bicyling

VT Agency of Transportation Safe Routes to School Program

DESCRIPTION
A train-the-trainers workshop for:

  • Local and Regional Safety Educators
  • Members of SRTS teams from communities in Vermont
  • P.E. Teachers
  • Community collaborators- Law Enforcement, First Responders and Parks and Recreation Program staff

This workshop offers a standards-based curriculum with six interactive lessons and performance assessment tools, hands-on practice setting up lessons in either a classroom or safety fair format and the knowledge and skills for teaching bicycle safety to students aged 5-13 in your school or community. You will be given a choice between two tracks:

  • Implementing in P.E. or as an after-school six-lesson series or
  • Implementing as a Bike safety Fair

Participants must bring a bicycle and helmet and be prepared to ride. We will ride outside, weather permitting, or inside the annex in case of rain or snow.

Times: 8:30-9:00am Registration and continental breakfast
9:00am-3:00pm Training with a 12 noon break for a catered lunch
Cost: This workshop is provided by the Center for Health & Learning at a reduced cost thanks to a grant from the VT Agency of Transportation Safe Routes to School Program. A participant fee of $35.00 includes the new Bike Smart-On-Bike curriculum, continental breakfast & a catered lunch.
Registration: Parking – Public Lot adjacent to Memorial Annex. First come, first served metered spots. Also, 2 blocks away there is a Burlington Municipal Garage; pay when you leave based upon hours in garage:
