(BY INVITATION ONLY) Stategic Prevention Framework Training

Welcome

These trainings are by invitation only and are designed for coalition representatives who receive Strategic Prevention Framework funding and other identified coalition funding.

Key Objectives

The purpose of the Vermont SPF is twofold:

  • to further develop, strengthen and maintain prevention services infrastructure throughout the state;
  • and to impact at a community level the three priority areas of substance abuse identified by the state Epidemiological Work Group.

The Vermont priorities for the Strategic Prevention Framework Initiative are to:

  • Reduce underage drinking.
  • Reduce high-risk drinking among persons under the age of 25.
  • Reduce marijuana use among persons under the age of 25.
  • Build prevention capacity and infrastructure at the state and community levels, including a sustainable evaluation system for prevention grantees.

Key Topics

  • Sustainability in Implementation – Practical strategies for addressing sustainability issues (organizational issues, funding, communication with constituencies, etc.).
  • Environmental Change Strategies— Planning and implementing environmental strategies at the local level with an emphasis on Social Marketing and Social Norms/ Media Campaigns.
  • Planning and Implementing Evaluation Strategies – Developing detailed evaluation plans; selecting key indicators; collecting, analyzing and effectively applying process and outcome data.
  • Cultural Competency – Integrating cultural competency throughout all phases of SPF with an emphasis on rural, impoverished communities and socioeconomic factors.
  • Advocacy – On-going local and state level advocacy instruction and implementation.

2010-2011 Training Content:

· How to build and maintain relationships within the coalition and with other partners focused on the mission.

· How to implement, sustain and evaluate environmental strategies

· How to find commonality with coalition mission and the mission of other community partners to find a home for current strategies that will sustain beyond the grant timeframe

· How to collect, manage, analyze and present data for different kinds of strategies

· The skills/knowledge in specific topic areas such as social networking, website development, prevention in the workplace.

· Knowledge of state prevention systems and potential funding opportunities

· How to build capacity for statewide advocacy (ways to support each other’s work by sharing resources and strategizing about building statewide infrastructure for future.)

· Skills and resources for sustainability

Final agendas for these meetings are distributed several weeks prior to each meeting. Agendas are developed with input from the Training Design Advisory Group.

Cost: These trainings, by invitation only, are funded through grants from the Vermont Department of Health.

Participant materials, continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Overnight lodging is available at nearby North Star Lodge & Resort at a special rate of 87.12/night (includes tax). Lodging costs are the responsibility of the attendee.
