Integrated Professional Ethics for Student Assistance Counselors and School-Based Guidance Counselors - NAADAC, ACA and ASCA Codes of Ethics

ADAP Substance Abuse Prevention Training Series

DESCRIPTION

OBJECTIVES

1) Participants will learn relevant parts of three codes of ethics as they relate to school-based practices and counseling.

2) Participants will learn relevant aspects of child/adolescent co-occurring clinical conditions, and how their code of ethics applies to these conditions.

3) Participants will learn basic mindfulness skills and how they apply to doing ethical practice in school-based services.

The emphasis of this workshop is on SAP ethics with a secondary emphasis on school counselor ethics.

Topics Include:

  • Introduction to an overview of the three codes
  • Integrated information for the School-Base Counselor codes
  • Specific components of the NAADAC code for SAPs
  • Specific components of the ACA and ASCA codes
  • Core integrated professional ethics related to the three codes
  • Challenges to ethical practice
  • Selected scenarios in school-based practices
  • Summary and review of core points in ethical practice and the role of mindfulness-based awareness in ethical practice

Offered under a grant from the Vermont Department of Health, Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Programs.

TRAINER
Anthony R. Quintiliani, Ph.D., LADC

Dr. Anthony R. Quintiliani is a doctoral level licensed psychologist specializing in clinical health psychology. He is also a licensed alcohol and drug counselor. He has over 35 years of successful work experience in public schools, community clinics and higher education. His specialties includes clinical health psychology, addictions treatment, clinical practice with co-occurring disorders, mindfulness-based interventions, professional ethics and other topics. In higher education he has taught evidence-based course on happiness, mindfulness and their health benefits. He has also worked in establishing training programs in public schools, most recently dealing with mindfulness-based training for teachers and counselors in South Burlington, Essex Junction and other districts. He has been the lead clinical trainer in the Vermont Addictions Academy for the past 20 years. He has practiced various forms of meditation since the early 1980s. His professional goal is the practical and safe integration of whatever reduces human suffering, especially when traditional Western treatments have failed to produce desired outcomes.
