Cultural Skills, Diversity, and Competency Training

TRAINING OVERVIEW:
This intermediate training program is designed to provide the Prevention Coalitions with the opportunity to explore the dynamics of cultural diversity and infrastructure considerations for designing prevention services. Participants will be engaged in a variety of educational activities that will address diversity issues and strategies for working successfully with diversified communities.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
At the end of this training participants will:
- Describe the significance role of culture in shaping one’s attitudes, values, beliefs and practices,
- Develop insight into how one’s own cultural values may hinder effective prevention efforts with culturally diverse communities and;
- Define cultural competence and describe how it relates to the provision of prevention educational services.
