Know Your Body

Know Your Body (KYB) is an elementary (grades K-6) health education curriculum that is comprehensive in its scope and addresses the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommended content areas for health education.
Developed by the American Health Foundation with funding from the National Cancer and National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institutes, extensive research on the curriculum has found positive changes in health-related attitudes, behavior and knowledge as a result of implementing KYB.

KYB is skills-based, integrating decision-making, communication, and goal-setting throughout the curriculum. KYB meets the National Health Education Standards and is compatible with all state and district standards as well. The curriculum is also aligned with the New Standards™ Primary Literacy Standards for K-3 and the New Standards™ Performance Standards for the English Language Arts for the upper elementary grades.

Performance assessment is an integral part of the KYB curriculum. The CCSSO-SCASS project’s Assessment Framework model was used in the KYB 2000 curriculum revision and in the development of the student performance assessments.
