Alcohol and Drug Abuse Programs - VT Department of Health

Leadership Skills

Participants in this one-day workshop will consider dimensions of leadership, identify leadership styles and how they influence working relationships. Basic leadership skills in managing, planning, and implementing community process will also be addressed. Participants will also introduced to approaches for evaluating effectiveness in leadership ability.

Trainer: Gail Taylor, M.Ed.
Gail Taylor has been in the field of prevention and healthy youth development for 15 years. She has worked at the community, state, and national levels delivering a variety of prevention services to include workshops and training, curriculum development, local and state prevention systems assessment, effective prevention program development, coalition development for community change, cultural competency and grant making. Ms. Taylor managed the $9 million State Incentive Grant Project for the Governor’s Office for Substance Abuse Prevention and assisted in infusing effective prevention programs throughout Virginia and building capacity for prevention providers to provide effective practice. In this process, she provided technical assistance to the 20 coalitions receiving SIG grants.

Ms. Taylor is currently the Coordinator of Prevention Services for Henrico County Area, VA Mental Health, Mental Retardation, and Substance Abuse Services managing a team of 7 Prevention Specialists who provide prevention services that promote healthy youth development in Henrico County. She is also responsible for the work of the “Too Smart To Start Coalition” in the County and a Board member of the Regional Drug Free Alliance.

  • Early Registration (Registration prior to two weeks of the training) $30, includes training, snacks, and materials for all VAPA members. $45 non-members.
